A congregation was formed in Sunbury as early as 1776 and in 1784 they received their corporate seal. on Whortleberry Street. In 1793 they joined with the Presbyterians to build a log church on the corner of River and Blackberry Streets and this building continued to be used for nearly fifty years. In 1840 a special act of the Pennsylvania Assembly granted the Presbyterians the right to rebuild and so half of the building was sold to the Reformed Church for $400. Once the Presbyterians left, the Reformed Church decided to rebuild as well and in 1847 a new brick church was erected.
