| Student
research: |

Bucknell
encourages student research, within courses, as free-standing theses
and projects, within faculty research programs, or during the summer.
In addition to the university program (see this
link), dedicated funds from the McKenna Foundation support student
environmental within the Susquehanna river basin. |
| Study
abroad: |
| |
A
majority of the environmental studies students take advantage of the
University's international studies opportunities and spend a semester
studying in very different environments, such as east Africa, Australia,
Belize, and Ecuador, as well as Europe or Washington, D.C. |
| Internships: |
| |
The
program supports student internships through the faculty's contacts,
through guidance in the students' own searches, and occasionally
through course credit. Research, science, educational, corporate,
planning, enforcement, law, and policy internships are possible.
The Career Development Center also can be very helpful in internship
searches. |
| Field
sites: |
| |
Students
and faculty work at a four of natural areas in the local region, and
numerous other locales in the rural Ridge-and-Valley landscape and
beyond -- coal mines, landfills, State Forests, limestone valleys,
and Virginia beaches, Florida scrublands, and California deserts. |
| Environmental
laboratory: |
| |
A
modern environmental lab with professional director supports environmental
research in biology, civil engineering, geology, and elsewhere. |
| Where
our majors go: |
| |
Majors
in the environmental studies program and related environmental disciplines
go on to a variety of careers, depending on their background. Recent
graduates have jobs with environmental engineering firms, planning
offices, state and federal environmental agencies, and non-profit
organizations. Many go on to graduate school, in environmental science,
environmental engineering, policy studies, environmental planning,
or to law school. |
