Audio/Oral Lab

The language laboratory was located in the basement of Bertrand Library. Students would listen to language tapes. They could also record their pronunciation and listen to it. Each booth contained controls to operate the equipment as well as a microphone, headset, and tapes.

In 1965, most students at Bucknell were required to study a foreign language. This was the case for all candidates for the bachelor of arts degree, who had to complete a foreign language requirement of a year or more, depending upon previous study in high school. Candidates for the bachelor of science degree in the natural sciences were required to study a foreign language for one year. Students in bachelor of science degree programs in business administration, education and engineering were not required to study a foreign language.
