School year

The school year is different for school districts of the first class and school districts of all other classes. For school districts of the first class, the school year is the period of time between January 1 and December 31 of any year. For school districts of all other classes, the school year is the period of time between July 1 of one year and June 30 of the following year. In accordance with 24 PS §1-102(4): "School districts with a year-round education program may submit a request to the Secretary of Education for approval or disapproval to extend the school year until August 15 for the purpose of determining average daily memberships for students whose one hundred eighty (180) days of instruction continue into the summer months."
