Dismissal

Dismissal is termination of employment, which completely severs the relationship between the employe and the school entity. Dismissal by one entity does not necessarily prevent employment by another entity because the dismissed employe still retains a certificate if it has not been revoked or suspended.

The causes for dismissal of a professional employe are stated in 24 PS § 11-1122 ; temporary professional employes can be dismissed for any of these causes or for an unsatisfactory rating. See 24 PS § 11-1108(a). Both professional employes and temporary professional employes have due process rights that must be observed before they are dismissed.

Within ten days of the dismissal, the board of school directors must report the name of the person dismissed and the cause for the dismissal to the Secretary of Education in accordance with 22 PA Code § 49.64(e)
