Board of Public Education
In each school district of the first class or the first class A the board of school directors is designated as "The Board of Public Education." A school district that has a population of 1,500,000 or more is a school district of the first class, and a school district that has a population of 350,000 or more but less than 1,500,000 is a school district of the first class A. In school districts of the first class there are fifteen (15) school directors who serve a term of office of six years. See 24 PS § 3-302(a) The board of public education in districts of the first class has duties in addition to those of other districts, which are described in 24 PS § 21-2103. In school districts of the first class A, the number of school board members is an odd number not less than seven (7) or more than fifteen (15) who serve a term of four years.
