A circular staircase was constructed just inside the new addition to the library, which was open from the top to the bottom of the new addition. The back wall of the original structure was removed on the first floor of the old library along the entire length of the former first-floor reading room. The three pink pillars in the far background mark the location of the wall of the original structure. This 1983 photograph is taken from the rear of the original library. Part of the original mezzanine of the first-floor reading room, which was incorporated into the new building, can be seen at the left in the photograph, just behind the card catalogue, which had been moved from the front of the original library. Instructional media services had been relocated to the area previously occupied by the card catalogue. The new circulation desk is visible to the right in the photograph. The new level one addition contained reference materials, work areas and offices, a study areas and reading spaces. |
