ransit Room
This is an interior view of the transit room in the new Observatory. This was the original transit instrument, which had been used as early as 1887. The instrument was permanently mounted on a pier that was specifically designed for this purpose so that the transit instrument was constrained to operate on a North to South axis. There were long windows on the North and South sides of the room, and the roof could be opened so that the transit instrument could be rotated on its entire axis.
