thletic Field

This is one of the two athletic fields used by males in the 1960's. This field was the old North Athletic Field, which had been constructed in the early 1920's and which had been intended to be the site for the new stadium that was to be built to replace Loomis Field, the original athletic field located next to Tustin Gymnasium. This field was located between Davis Gymnasium ( which is not visible, but which is on the left in the photograph ) and South Seventh Street, which was located next to the Men's Tennis Courts ( visible to the rear in the photograph ). In the 1960"s, this field was used for male physical education classes, as well as for athletic contests. In 1965, male and female students were required to take one course in physical education , which carried one-quarter course-credit, during each semester of the freshman and sophomore years. Students received a grade for these courses, which was included in their grade-point averages. Two houses are visible beyond the tennis courts. The house on the left contained apartments; the house on the right was Spratt House.
