Dr. Wayne E. Manning, Professor of Botany, and other members of the Biology Department posed for this photograph, which appeared in the 1966 L'Agenda . Dr. Manning is the third from the right in the photograph. In the early 1960's a number of different botany courses were offered by the Biology Department including Plant Morphology, Plant Anatomy, Plant Histology, Cultivated Plants, Economic Botany, Dendrology, and Taxonomy of Local Flora. By 1966, with the addition of two new instructors, the Biology Department was beginning a long-range expansion of courses as well as the reorganization of several existing courses. As a result, by 1970 only one of these courses was listed in the Bucknell Catalog. In addition to teaching most of the courses in botany, Dr. Manning also taught the Teachers' Course in Methods for many years. This course was taken by students who were preparing to teach biology in secondary schools. |
