The fountain atop Freas Hall was located on the terrace midway between Coleman Hall, which was to the left in the photograph, and Marts Hall, which was to the right. The fencing surrounding the men's tennis courts is visible beyond the wall to the right of where the students are standing. These tennis courts extended to South Seventh Street. The house with the balcony on the second story ( to the upper left in the photo ) was located on South Seventh Street. Two large brick boxes for planting were located on either side of the fountain. One of the two boxes nearest to Coleman Hall is slightly visible to the left in the photograph.

There was a pump which drew the water from the pool and expelled it through the central and side spouts of the fountain. Shortly after the fountain was put into operation, students discovered that the pool could be quickly filled with bubbles if detergent was placed in the water.
