Members of the education department meet in the seminar room located in the B Wing of Coleman Hall for this photograph which appeared in the 1965 L'Agenda. Testing materials were stored in the cabinets to the rear in the photo, and filmstrips and books are on the shelves.

In 1965, the Education Department was the center of much research activity. Among the projects being conducted were the Milton Project, funded by the Ford Foundation, and a two-year graduate program leading to a Master of Science Degree with an emphasis in educational research, funded by a grant from the United States Office of Education. Later in the 1960's the education department received funds from federal, state, and local sources for Project SESAME, which involved a number of school districts in central Pennsylvania in various cooperative projects. The department also administered funds from a Carnegie Foundation grant to involve other academic departments in the College of Arts and Sciences in the "continuous progress project" to individualize instruction in selected areas of the humanities, social sciences, and sciences.
