On September 25, 1931, the Bison met the Saints of St. Thomas College in the first night football game to be played in Memorial Stadium. The Tommies were captained by Walter Opekun who was a "former star of the University of Pennsylvania." Clark Hinkle lead his team to a 34-7 victory in the first game of what would be an unbeaten season.
