Late 1940's
Musical Performance
Davis Gymnasium was utilized for more than athletic events for men. Whenever a large audience was anticipated for a campus event, folding chairs were placed on the floor of the gymnasium to seat the people who attended the event. This photograph is of a performance of Handel's Messiah in the late 1940's. People are seated in the stands as well as on the chairs on the floor. The orchestra and chorus are located at the west end of the gymnasium in front of the large drape. The two exits doors located to either side of the drape opened directly to the outside of the gymnasium toward the Lewisburg Cemetery. Two large heaters are visible on the wall. This photograph appeared in the l949 L'Agenda.
