M
athewson Memorial Gate
When originally constructed, a road ran through the gateway. Four sidewalks, two on each side of the road, connected the Gate with Moore Avenue. Each pair of sidewalks was separated by a strip of grass. On either side of the large central gate were two small structures, each topped by four ornaments, next to which were small gateways. These structures contained windows where tickets could be purchased. Directly behind the Gate was the horseshoe-shaped Memorial Stadium, which is partially visible in the right center of the photograph. The baseball field was also located beyond the Gate.
