Miss Ra Chella Scott was born October 17, 1864, in Gregg Township, Union County, Pennsylvania. Her father, Amos Scott, was an "agriculturalist" whose farm was located next to the road which connected Allenwood to Elimsport. Mr. Scott, who was educated in the local schools and attended the Academy of the University at Lewisburg for several months, was a graduate of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle and a member of the Baptist Church, in which he served as clerk for thirty years.

Miss Scott was a graduate of the Female Institute in 1884 and of the University in 1885. There were fourteen members in her graduating class. After graduation, Miss Scott was a faculty member of the State Normal School at Mansfield, Pennsylvania, for three years. She married George W. Beale, an attorney of Scranton, Pennsylvania. Her sister, Frances, graduated from the University in 1902. Mrs. Beale died on August 28, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois.
