Fields
of Research and Teaching Interest: History of economic thought, pedagogy,
technology and the digital economy, economic policy.
- Recent
activities: Having recently finished revising the 6th edition
of Economics: A Tool For Understanding Society, a principles
text which she co-authors with Tom Riddell (Smith
College) and Steve Stamos (Bucknell,
International Relations, and Geoff Schneider, Bucknell University,
Economics.). Jean is currently working on a text on the Digital
Economy. Recently she has presented conference papers on technology
and pedagogy and various topics in the history of economic thought,
and has edited The History of Economic Thought: A Reader. In
addition, her research on the contributions of women economists is
included in the Biographical Dictionary of Women Economists
(edited by Mary Ann Dimand, Robert Dimand, and Evelyn Forget) for
publication by Edward Elgar. She also contributed to the Encyclopedia
of Political Economy (edited by Phillip O'Hara). Over the years
Jean has been an active participant in university governance, serving
on a number of committeees, and has served twice as director of the
Writing
Center and co-director of the Race/Gender Center. Jean was the
founding president of Sunflower Day Care Center and a founder the
International
Association for Feminist Economics, served as its first president,
as its executive secretary for the past 15 years. IAFFE
hosts an annual international conference and Routledge publishes its
official journal, Feminist
Economics-for which Jean serves on the Editorial Board. She
also runs an electronic list devoted to the discussion of feminist
issues in Economics (Femecon-L).
