of Research and Teaching Interest:
Economics of integration, The European Union, U.S./Canada relations,
urban economies and globalization, and culture policy and trade conflict.
While his primary teaching in done in the area of international economics,
Prof. Kresl offers courses in all of his research areas, including
two Capstone Seminars that look at the ways in which trade has affected
the cultural industries, such as media and the arts, in various countries,
and one on "Keynes, Roosevelt and the 1930s," as well as
co-teaching with a member of the Music faculty a Capstone Seminar
on "Cities and the Culture of Creativity," and a Foundation
Seminar, for First Year Students, "Perspectives on Cities."
He has taught in both Bucknell-en-France (1990 and 1997) and Bucknell
in London (1992 and 1998).
- Recent
activities:
His recent recent publications focus on the effects of globalization
on urban economies and on the impact of NAFTA on Canadian and Quebec
culture. He has done three papers for the Organization for Economic
Cooperation and Development. He is a past-President of the Association
for Canadian Studies in the U.S. Prof. Kresl recently co-authored
a book on the French economy, with a colleague from Tours (France),
France Encoutners Globalization, as well as several papers
on aspects of cities and globalization. His most recent book is co-authored
with Earl Fry (Brigham Young University), The Urban Response to
Internationalization," and he is finishing another, The
Cities Take Charge, on urban strategic-economic planning.
