A Message from Keith Buffinton, Dean of Engineering

Ultimately, education is about impact. We seek in the engineering education we offer at Bucknell to immerse our students in engineering, to integrate across boundaries, to innovate for the future, and to broadly inspire our students in the hope that they will “impact the world,” which is the last of the strategic themes we’re highlighting in this College of Engineering newsletter. As you’ll read in the articles linked below, the opportunities for our students to impact the world are many. Our students are ensuring the preservation of water quality in the Chesapeake Bay, developing sustainable approaches to transportation, building homes for those in need as part of the Appalachia Service Project, helping to solve the Grand Challenges identified by the National Academy of Engineering, and exploring the technology necessary to make Hyperloop a reality. As I step out of the Deans’ Office and return to the faculty, I am proud of the impacts that our students, faculty, staff and alumni have made on the world, and look forward to all the opportunities for impact that our new dean, Pat Mather, will bring to the College in the years ahead.
