Prelab:

Begins at 1pm, Don’t be late.

Prelab questions due at 1pm or points deducted for tardiness

Watch schedule for due dates.

Take notes in lab notebook

During Lab:

SAFETY GLASSES MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES WHILE IN LABORATORY!!!!

Record ALL data DIRECTLY into lab notebook

Include calculations, sketches of TLC plates, GC traces etc.

Record observations

You MUST be signed out each week by Dr. Gwaltney or Grad. TA

Lab report:

Must be your own original work

TYPED (except for reaction, sketches etc.)

Make two copies (one for you)

Save often on two disks to avoid loss due to computer malfunction

DO NOT SAVE ON HARD DRIVES IN COMMON COMPUTERS

This may result in inadvertent academic impropriety

Includes: Name, Date, Lab Section Number, and Title

Postlab questions

Impropriety:

Academic Impropriety will not be tolerated. Suspected cases of impropriety will be dealt with appropriately. Be careful that you do not arouse suspicion.

Absence:

Make-up of lab will be allowed during the same week as the missed lab for official events (note from coach or instructor) and illness (note from a Dean)

Dr. Gwaltney will arrange make-up with another instructor

DO NOT attend any lab section other than your own unless approved by Dr. Gwaltney

Grading:

Grades will be determined by appropriate weighting of prelab questions, lab reports (including postlab questions), technique, lab notebook, quizzes and lab final exam
