Common Name:Central American Red Brocket
Type Locality:No locality cited but reference made to "Hernand. hist. nat. mexic. p. 325". Restricted by Hershkovitz (1951) to Mexico, Veracruz, Mirador.
Distribution:Belize, W Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico (SE from S Tamaulipas), Nicaragua, and Panama.
Status:CITES Appendix III (Guatemala) as M. americana cerasina.
Comments:Raised to species status by Geist (1998), following suggestions by Groves and Grubb (1987).
