Common Name:Amazon Weasel
Type Locality:"Africa", type locality is in error, fixed by Cabrera (1957) as "arrabales de Belem, la antigua Pará." [Brazil]
Distribution:Amazon Basin in Brazil, Ecuador, and Peru.
Status:IUCN – Data Deficient.
Comments:Youngman (1982) and Abramov (1999) placed africana in subgenus Grammogale. Izor and de la Torre (1978) suggested that africana and felipei form a monophyletic group. Cabrera (1957) considered Grammogale a valid genus.
