Common Name:Soft-spined Atlantic Spiny-rat
Type Locality:Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, unknown probably SW Rio de Janeiro.
Distribution:E Brazil including the states of Rio de Janeiro and Distrito Federal.
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (lc) as Proechimys dimidiatus.
Comments:Reviewed by Pessôa and Reis (1993). Lara and Patton (2000) concluded that dimidiatus was the sister taxon of iheringi. Karyotype has 2n=56 (Pessôa and Reis, 1993).
