Common Name:Cape Porcupine
Type Locality:Mozambique, Querimba coast and Tette, about 10o30’ to 12oS, 40o30’E, sea level.
Distribution:Mouth of the Congo River to Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, W and S Tanzania, Mozambique, and South Africa. Sympatric with H. cristata.
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (lc). Common.
Comments:Subgenus Hystrix. Revised by Corbet and Jones (1965); see Van Weers (1983).
