GENUS Galenomys

Author:Thomas, 1916.
Citation:Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., ser. 8, 17: 143.
Type Species:Phyllotis garleppi Thomas, 1898.
Comments:Phyllotini. Named as a subgenus of Euneomys, later elevated to genus (Thomas, 1926a), and reassociated as a subgenus of Phyllotis (Ellerman, 1941; Osgood, 1947; Corbet and Hill, 1991). Revised by Hershkovitz (1962), who considered Galenomys a distinct genus, as did Pearson (1958); phylogenetic evaluation of morphological characters depicts Galenomys as closely related to species of Ausliscomys (Braun, 1993; Steppan, 1995).
