Placed in subgenus Microtus by Pavlinov and Rossolimo (1987) and Meyer et al. (1996). Considered closely related to M. mujanensis and M. maximowiczii (Meyer, 1983); close kinship to M. mujanensis sustained by molar variation within the M. maximowiczii species group (Pozdnyakov, 1993) and by data accumulated from morphological, karyological, and hybridization studies (Meyer et al., 1996). |
