Common Name:Western Tufted-tailed Rat
Type Locality:Madagascar, Toliara Prov., Tsilambana.
Distribution:Dry deciduous forest and xerophilous habitats, W Madagascar, from the vicinity of Ankarafantsika to the island’s southernmost tip (Carleton et al., 2001:Fig. 3).
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Although endemic to western biotopes, the range of E. myoxinus closely approaches that of eastern species in the extreme south (Carleton et al., 2001; Goodman et al., 1999). Sister species of E. minor according to phylogenetic interpretation of mitochondrial DNA sequences (Jansa et al., 1999).
