GENUS Prionomys

Author:Dollman, 1910.
Citation:Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., ser. 8, 6: 226.
Type Species:Prionomys batesi Dollman, 1910.
Comments:Dollman’s (1910) generic description is excellent and highlights its many unique traits among dendromurines. The interorbital and postorbital conformation, shape and size of incisive foramina, and molar patterns are similar to Dendroprionomys. A cladistic analysis based primarily on dental traits excludes Prionomys and Dendroprionomys from dendromurines (Denys et al., 1995), but this hypothesis should be tested with other data.
