Distribution:Siskiyou Mtns and coast of N California to C Oregon (USA).
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Subgenus Neotamias. Elevated from a subspecies of townsendii by Sutton and Nadler (1974); distinction supported by Kain (1985), Sutton (1987), and Gannon and Lawlor (1989).
