Common Name:Siberian Chipmunk
Type Locality:"Vicinity of Barnaul" [Altaisk Krai, Russia] (Chaworth-Musters, 1937).
Distribution:N European and Siberian Russia to Sakhalin; S Kurile Isls (Russia); extreme E Kazakhstan to N Mongolia, China, Korea, and Hokkaido (Japan). Introduced into Austria, France, Germany, Holland and Italy (Niethammer and Krapp, 1978).
Status:IUCN Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Subgenus Eutamias; see Gromov et al. (1965:125). Koh (1994) compared Korean and Manchurian forms. Oshida and Yoshida (1994) described the chromosomes of T. s. lineatus.
