Type Locality:Brazil, Amazonas, Tefé (south bank of Solimões River).
Distribution:South bank of Amazon, between lower Jurua and lower Purús Rivers.
Status:CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Separated from monachus by Hershkovitz (1979, 1987d).
