Common Name:Brown Lemur
Type Locality:Madagascar.
Distribution:W Madagascar from Akarafantsika north to the Sambirano, perhaps to the Tsaratanana; E Madagascar, some way northeast of Antananarivo; Mayotte (Comoro Isls).
Status:CITES – Appendix I; U.S. ESA – Endangered; IUCN – Lower Risk (nt).
Comments:Does not include albifrons, albocollaris, collaris, rufus or sanfordi; Groves (2001c) treated these forms, generally classed as subspecies, as distinct species.
