Harrison's (1960) reference to the occurrence of this species around Sarawak is undocumented by specimens or photos. | Status: | CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Endangered, except for North Island subpopulation, which is Critically Endangered. | Comments: | Baker, Smith and Pichler (2002) recognized that C. h. maui form a morphologically and genetically recognizable subspecies on the North Isl of New Zealand, while the nominal subspecies was restricted to the South Isl. |
