Common Name:South American Red Brocket
Type Locality:"Habitat in Guiania et Brazilia" and also cited from Surinam; restricted to French Guiana, Cayenne (Cabrera, 1961:335).
Distribution:N Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Surinam, Trinidad, Tobago, and Venezuela.
Status:IUCN – Data Deficient.
Comments:Mazama americana tumatumari J. A. Allen, 1915 is a composite based on a skull of Odocoileus virginianus (the lectotype) and a skin of Mazama americana; see Tate (1939).
