Common Name:Caribbean Monk Seal
Type Locality:"Jamaica" restricted by King (1956) to "Pedro Cays, 80 km. south of Jamaica".
Distribution:Historical records include coastal regions of the Caribbean Sea and Yucatan: Mexico (Veracruz to Yucatan), Bahamas, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, USA (Florida).
Status:CITES – Appendix I; U.S. ESA – Endangered; IUCN – Extinct.
Comments:Extinct since 1952 (Kenyon, 1977; Rice, 1998).
