Common Name:Banded Palm Civet
Type Locality:Not given. Fixed by Gray (1837) as "in Peninsulâ Malayanâ".
Distribution:Burma (peninsular), Indonesia (Sipora Isl, South Pagi Isl, Kalimantan, Sumatra), Malaysia, Thailand.
Status:CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Gervais (1841) was the first to place in Hemigalus. Gray (1849) later considered Paradoxurus derbyanus a junior synonym of Viverra hardwicki Gray (1830), and placed it also in the genus Hemigalea after Jourdan (1837). However, V. hardwicki is a junior synonym of Prionodon linsang Raffles (1821). Synonyms allocated according to D. D. Davis (1962).
