SPECIES Myotis riparius
Author: | Handley, 1960. | Citation: | Proc. U.S. Natl. Mus., 112: 466-468. | Common Name: | Riparian Myotis | Type Locality: | Panama, Darien, Río Puero, Tacarcuna Village. | Distribution: | Honduras south to Uruguay, E Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Bolivia; Trinidad. | Status: | IUCN 2003 and IUCN/SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc). | Comments: | Originally described as a subspecies of simus. Reviewed in part by López-González et al. (2001). LaVal (1973a) suggested that guaycuru may be the oldest name for this species, but López-González et al. (2001) have shown guaycuru to be a junior synonym of simus. Apparently closely related to ruber; see Ruedi and Mayer (2001). |
