GENUS Mimon

Author:Gray, 1847.
Citation:Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1847: 14.
Type Species:Phyllostoma bennettii Gray, 1838.
Comments:Does not include Anthorhina, a name that is actually a junior synonym of Tonatia (see Gardner and Ferrell [1990] and Article 67.8 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature [International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature, 1999]) despite its frequent use as a subgenus of Mimon following Handley (1960). The nominate subgenus of Mimon includes bennettii and cozumelae; the other subgenus (formerly called Anthorhina) includes crenulatum and koepckeae, but there is presently no valid name for this subgenus.
