Common Name:Hairy Slit-faced Bat
Type Locality:Senegal.
Distribution:Senegal, Gambia, and extreme S Mauritania to Somalia and south to Angola, C Mozambique, Botswana, and Malawi; Zanzibar; Bioko (Equatorial Guinea). A South African record is dubious; see Cotterill (1996).
Status:IUCN 2003 and IUCN/SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:hispida species group. Revised by Van Cakenberghe and De Vree (1993b); also see Koopman (1975). Does not include aurita. Several subspecies are often recognized, but these do not seem justified; see Van Cakenberghe and De Vree (1993b).
