Common Name:Desman
Type Locality:"Habitat in Russiae aquosis."
Distribution:Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan; Don, Volga, and Ural Rivers and their tributaries; introduced into Tachan and Tartas Rivers (Ob basin) and Dnepr River. Almost extinct in Belarus.
Status:IUCN – Vulnerable.
Comments:Borodin (1963), Barabash-Nikiforov (1968, 1975), Khakhin and Ivanov (1990), and Queiroz et al. (1996) reviewed the morphology, distribution and ecology of the species. Dental formula discussed by Kawada et al. (2002c).
