Common Name:Plains Pocket Gopher.
Type Locality:USA, upper Mississippi Valley (restricted to Minnesota, Sherburne Co., Elk River by Swenk, 1939).
Distribution:SC Manitoba (Canada) to NW Indiana, SC Texas, and NE New Mexico (USA).
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Revised by Merriam (1895a) and, in part, by Honeycutt and Schmidly (1979) and by Heaney and Timm (1983a), who considered lutescens a valid species (see also Heaney and Timm, 1985; Jolley et al., 2000). Burns et al. (1985), Sudman et al (1987), and Elrod et al. (2000) listed lutescens as a subspecies of bursarius, which is followed here. Elrod et al. (2000) mapped the ranges of all subspecies recognized by Hall (1981).
