Type Locality:"lower Columbia River, near lower mouth of Willamette River, [Multnomah Co.,] Oreg[on]." [USA].
Distribution:SW British Columbia (Canada), W Washington and Oregon to the Rogue River (USA).
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Subgenus Neotamias. Formerly included ochrogenys, siskiyou and senex; see comments under those species. Reviewed by Sutton (1993, Mammalian Species No. 435).
