Type Locality:"Big Cottonwood Meadows, ... just south of Mount Whitney, altitude 3,050 meters or 10,000 feet" [Tulare Co., California, USA].
Distribution:Alpine zone in Sierra Nevada, from Tuolumne to Tulare Counties (EC California, USA).
Status:IUCN Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Subgenus Neotamias. Reviewed by Clawson et al. (1994a, Mammalian Species No. 461).
