Common Name:Mexican Ground Squirrel
Type Locality:"in nova Hispania?" Restricted by Mearns (1896:443) to "Toluca, [Mexico,] Mexico."
Distribution:S New Mexico and W Texas (USA) to Jalisco and S Puebla (C Mexico).
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Subgenus Ictidomys (Hall, 1981:394). Known to hybridize at several localities with tridecemlineatus (Cothran and Honeycutt, 1984; Cothran et al., 1977). Reviewed by Young and Jones (1982, Mammalian Species No. 164).
