Citation:Syst. Nat., 10th ed., 1: 64.
Common Name:Siberian Flying Squirrel
Type Locality:"in borealibus Europae, Asiae, et Americae." Restricted by Thomas (1911a:149) to "Finland." Ognev (1966:268) proposed restriction to "central Sweden," but the species does not occur there (Sulkava, 1978:76).
Distribution:Palearctic taiga, from N Finland east to Chukotka (Russia); south to E Baltic shore; S Ural Mtns, Altai Mtns (Russia), Mongolia; N China; Korea; Sakhalin Isl (Russia), and Hokkaido (Japan); perhaps mtns of W China.
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (nt).
Comments:Chromosomes described by Rausch and Rausch (1982), and Oshida et al. (2000a). Subspecies follow Corbet (1978c).
