Common Name:Southern Tamandua
Type Locality:"America meridionali;" restricted to Brazil, Pernambuco, Pernambuco (= Recife), by Thomas (1911a).
Distribution:South America east of the Andes from Colombia, Venezuela, Trinidad, and the Guianas, south to Uruguay and N Argentina.
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:The names longicaudata, nigra, opisthomelas, and tamandua, cannot be assigned to subspecies with certainty because their type localities are too general.
