Common Name:Western Long-beaked Echidna.
Type Locality:Indonesia, Prov. of Papua (= Irian Jaya), Vogelkop, Manokwari Div., Arfak Mtns.
Distribution:Western New Guinea, west of Paniai Lakes; Salawati Isl (Indonesia).
Status:CITES - Appendix II; IUCN – Endangered.
Comments:Does not include bartoni and bubuensis; see Flannery and Groves (1998).
