Common Name:Amazon River Dolphin
Type Locality:"sur la côte du Brésil.", probably upper Amazon River.
Distribution:Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Bolivia, Venezuela, Columbia: Amazon, Negro, Mamore (Bolivia), and Orinoco River systems.
Status:CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Vulnerable.
Comments:Reviewed by Best and de Silva (1989). Includes boliviensis, see Casinos and Ocaña (1979); but also see Pilleri and Gihr (1977), who considered it a distinct species. Rice (1998:93) recognized I. g. geoffrensis (Amazon River Dolphin), I. g. humboldtiana (Orinoco River Dolphin) and I. g. boliviensis (Bolivian River Dolphin).
