Type Locality:"Brassilia", restricted by Goldman (In Young and Goldman, 1946:200) to "Cayenne region, French Guiana".
Distribution:Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, USA, Uruguay, Venezuela.
Status:CITES – Appendix I as F. c. coryi, F. c. costaricensis, and F. c. couguar; otherwise Appendix II; U.S. ESA – Endangered as F. c. coryi, F. c. costaricensis, and F. c. couguar; U.S. ESA – Similarity of Appearance to a Threatened Taxa (Florida); IUCN – Critically Endangered as P. c. couguar and P. c. coryi, otherwise Near Threatened.
Comments:Reviewed by Currier (1983) as Felis concolor. Placed in Puma by Pocock (1917a), Weigel (1961), Hemmer (1978), and Kratochvíl (1982c). Synonyms allocated according to Culver et al. (2000).
