Getting the Policies Right: The Case for Interdisciplinary
Theory in African
Development
Jean Ensminger is Professor of Anthropology at Washington University
in St. Louis
and specializes in political economy, new institutional economics,
and rational choice theory.
Since receiving her Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 1984,
Professor Ensminger has
received research grants for fieldwork in Kenya from the MacArthur
Foundation, the
Rockefeller Foundation, NIH, and the Swedish Academy of Sciences.
She is the author of
Making a Market: The Institutional Transformation of an African
Society (Cambridge
University Press, 1992), and co-editor of Wood, Energy and Households:
Perspectives on
Rural Kenya (The Beijer Institute and The Scandinavian Institute
of African Studies, 1985).
